As a well know conductor in Surrey Arts infamously starts his motivating speeches:
‘Hi my names Noel, and I have a dream!’ (obviously his names not Noel, but Howard knows who I’m talking about!!!!!!!)
That dream is to have weekly jazz in Reigate where like minded people can come and socialize, share ideas and enjoy great beer, food and most importantly uplifting jazz in a great environment.
As many may or may not know, I have been running the hare jazz club in Bethnal Green for about 2 years (www.theharee2.co.uk) ,where we now get some of the top players in the country, and I would like bring all of these great players to us (with free admission!), as well as tapping into the fantastic local talent that exists in and around Reigate.
I had the pleasure of talking last night to the great drummer Matt Skelton who was saying how it seems to be getting harder and harder to find good places to play. I feel it is our responsibility as jazz fans to support and encourage live music for the future of the art!
The good news is I’ve found the environment, However as we all know to continue a club anywhere is down to market forces! This is where all of you come in.
