Well after several months of absence Straight No Chaser is rehearsing again, and sounds even better than ever. Lots of problems in the last year: First of all losing our regular rehearsal venue at the Jack and Jill. This had been a wonderful home to the band since around 2001 when we first discovered this great pub with possibly the worst function room in the world. The beers were really great, in fact good enough to make up for the dark room where we had to bring our own light blubs in order to see the music. Not to mention the frosty winter rehearsals with our breath forming clouds in front of us. One year we were delighted when we saw they had put in the luxury of 2 electric heaters into the room. Only to see that for some quite unexplainable reason they had fitter them at ceiling height. The did a great job of creating 12 inches of nice warm air just below the ceiling.
However we lost our regular slot at the pub, and were really stuck to find a replacement venue. Hurstpierpoint college very generously let us use their music hall for a while, but soon again we were without a venue. The solution was just under our noses, a great pub only a couple of miles away from the Jack and Jill came to our rescue. A huge function room that fits the band in easily, and nice beers on tap. We couldn’t ask for more!
The Hassocks pub is right next door to Hassocks station. (Adddress: Station Approach East, Hassocks, West Sussex, BN6 8HN) and you should find the band rehearsing in there a couple of times a month on monday nights from now on. Public are more than welcome to sit in and have a listen. Check our google calendar for more details, but do check for updates near the date. I hope to see some friendly faces there soon. (Better than grumpy musicians)
